Donald "Don" E. Truax, 77, of Parkersburg, died Friday, July 22, at home of cancer.

He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Parkersburg, son of Leslie and Verna Truax.

He married Darlene Halter Nicklaus Feb. 9, 1971, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1951.

Mr. Truax was self-employed and drove a gravel truck in the area for many years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49 and American Legion Post 285 in Parkersburg.

Survived by: his wife; five sons, Rick (Suzanne) Nicklaus of Irvine, Calif., Steve (Pat) Nicklaus of Winterset, Keith Truax, Lonnie Truax and Scott Truax; four daughters, Teresa (Mike) Whitcome of Mantorville, Minn., Debra, Sandra and Sherry; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Angie) Behrends of Parkersburg, Tonya (Chad) Fessler of Clear Lake, Alex and Jonathan Nicklaus of Irvine, Calif., Becky Nicklaus of Winterset, Trista Truax of Cedar Falls and Autumn Whitcome (significant other, Evan Timm) of Rochester, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis and Seirra, Seirra, Alex, Kegan, Makia, Teleigha, Jalaura and Kaylee; an uncle, Virgil Lindeman of Parkersburg; longtime friends, Bill Smart and Nancy Hart of Waterloo; and his cat, Mow.

Preceded in death by: a son, Terry; three aunts, Marlys Young, Audrey Wilkenson and Lylas Lindaman; and an uncle, Leslie Dring.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, Parkersburg. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the family home, and will continue a half hour before services Monday at the church.

Don loved to golf and was a member of the Beaver Meadows Golf Course in Parkersburg for many years. Don also loved sports and was a proud supporter of the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
