Brent J. Kirkton, 66, of Gridley, Illinois, passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday (May 15, 2016) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Brent was born Oct. 6, 1949, a son of Rodney Kirkton and Dorothy Kent Kirkton. He married Linda Yount on Oct. 23, 1971 in El Paso, Illinois. Linda passed away on June 9, 2002. He married Marilyn Mackey on July 2, 2005 in rural Gridley. She survives along with daughter, Mindy Kirkton; son, Jeff (Cheryl) Kirkton and a granddaughter.

Other survivors include his beloved brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Juana Kirkton; one nephew; aunts, Maralon (John) Stauter and Pauline Booher; several stepchildren and grandchildren and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Mike Yount and sister-in-law, Monette Alvarez.

Brent was employed at NuAir/SC2 services for many years. He was instrumental in starting the Gridley Emergency Medical Services, served with Habitat for Humanity, was a volunteer fireman and was mayor of Gridley for 21 years.
