GRIDLEY, IL -- Dorothy Kirkton, 82, of 207 W. Sixth St., Gridley, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 4, 2004) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, El Paso. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Church of Gridley, with the Rev. Jack Nicolay officiating. Burial will follow at Gridley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home in Gridley and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the First United Church of Gridley Food Pantry; the American Red Cross; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Lexington, the daughter of E. Glen and Orabelle Kemp Kent. She married Rodney G. Kirkton on July 3, 1942, in Gridley. He died Feb. 11, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are two sons, R. Kent (Juana) Kirkton of Glendale, Calif., and Brent Kirkton of Gridley; three grandchildren, Thad, Mindy, and Jeff Kirkton; and two sisters, Maralon (John) Stauter of Gridley and Pauline (Paul) Booher of Parma, Idaho.

She was a member of the First United Church of Gridley and the American Legion Post 218 Auxiliary in Gridley. She was a Disaster Volunteer for the American Red Cross and had worked as a secretary for Attorney Benjamin H. Roth. Dorothy's life was built on faith, family and volunteerism.
