He was a member of Lakota's First Presbyterain Church and the Iowa National Guard. John enjoyed mechanics and race car driving.
Survivors include his son, Tyler, of Bancroft; his parents, Gary and Mary Heetland of Lakota; two sisters, Annette of Stewartville, Minnesota and Heidi Olson and husband, Jeff, of Mankato, Minnesota; his grandparents, Helen Oswald ofBancroft and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Heetland of Lakota and by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather and a step-grandfather."

Parents of the bride are Donald and Kathy Olson of Buffalo Center. Parents of the bridegroom are Gary and Mary Heetland of Lakota.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was Heidi Heetland, sister of the groom. Jeff Olson, brother of the bride, served as best man.
The bridegroom is employed at Troy's Auto Clinic in Fairmont, Minnesota and also is a member of the Natonal Guard.
