'Folkert J. Winter, 96

Funeral services for Folkert J. Winter, 96, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10 at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. Interment was in the Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Pastor Paul Haugen officiated. VeraBronleewe, organist, accompanied the congregation in singing. Casketbearers were George Winter, Jake Winter, Cecil Murra, Andy Winter, John Murra and Ray Murra. Folkert passed away Monday, October 8, 2001 at the Good Shepherd HealthCare in Mason City. Winter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Folkert J. Winter, son of Jan Ubbe and Grace (Meyer) Winter, was born October 18, 1904 on a farm near Buffalo Center. On February 15, 1925 he was united in marriage to Hannah Frey. After they were married they lived in Buffalo Centerand worked part time for Schutter Funeral Home and Furniture store and also at the Buffalo Center Creamery. They later moved to a farm west of Buffalo Center and farmed there until 1968 when they moved to town where he did carpenterjobs. Hannah passed away in 1994. In 1998, he moved to an assisted living center in Northfield, Minnesota for a year and then returned to Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. As his health declined he moved to the GoodShepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Folkert is survived by his two sons: Paul and his wife, Betty, of Buffalo Center, Phil and his wife, Thelma, of Northfield, Minnesota; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death byhis parents, his wife and two step-grandchildren."
