Andrew Akkerman and Tillie Steen were married December 28, 1926.

Tillie's father, George Steen, was born in Germany. Jennie (Borchers) Steen was born in Forreston, Illinois. They met at Wellsburg, Iowa, and were married and started farming there. They then bought a farm north of Allendorf and had afamily of eleven children. Andrew's father, Reamt Akkerman, was born in Freeport, Illinois. Etta Klaasen was also born in Freeport, Illinois. They were married in Lyon County and moved to a farm near Sibley. They had a family of seven children. Tillie Steen wasborn at Wellsburg and then moved with her family north of Sibley where she met Andrew Akkerman who was born in Lyon County near George.

They came to Osceola County and were married in 1926. They started farming north of Allendorf and next, west of Sibley. Andrew and Tillie then bought a farm northwest of Harris where they lived until they retired and moved to an apartmentin Harris. They have one son, Raymond, who lives on the farm. Andrew Akkerman, 101, Lake Park died Saturday April 11, 1998 at lake park Care Center, where he had been a resident for a few weeks. Services were Tuesday April 14, at First Presbyterian Church in Round lake, with the Rev Mike Japengaofficiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Harris under the direction of Walton, Rost, and Vogel funeral home of Sibley.

Andrew Akkerman son of Reamt and Etta (Klaasen) Akkerman was born September 28, 1896 near George. He spent his boyhood on the farm near George and attended country school. As a young man he moved with his family to the Rushmore, MN areawhere they farmed for 11 years until moving S of little Rock. He worked as a flax straw buyer for Peter J Sweitser Co in the 1940's and for the Osceola County ASCS in the 1950's in addition to farming NW of Harris.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, first after his baptism at Zoar Presbyterian Church, then at First Presbyterian in Sibley and for many years at First Presbyterian at Round lake. He was an avid card player and bowled in LakePark even up to the age of 89. Survivors include his wife Tillie Akkerman of Harris, son Ray Akkerman of Harris and his fiancee Lyla Schwarzenbach of Lake Park; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a sisterGrace Johnson of Worthington, and a brother-in-law Alfred Sixta of Sibley. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Alberta (Bertie) Akkerman, his parents and 5 sisters, Minnie Sleeper, Edith Heidebrink, Lena Olthoff, Etta Sixta and Irene DeWitt.
