Note: Funeral services were held Monday March 20, 1995 at 10:30 at First Presbyterian Church in Ashton, IA for Tena Ackerman, 99, who died March 16 at the Sibley care center. The Reverend David Ullom officiated. Pianist was Nellie Addengast.Harold Buysman, Lawrence Rensink and Rev Ullom sang One Day at a Time and Good Night, Good Morning. Casket bearers were Daryl Bruns, Ronald Bruns, Frederick Schaa, Stanley Ackerman, Roger Ackerman, and Robert Bruns. Internment was inGilman Township Cemetery with Walton Roste Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Tena (Grave) Ackerman was born July 9, 1895 in Lyon County near Ashton the daughter of Bernhard and Pernella (Auen) Grave. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. She was united in marriage to Edward M. Ackerman January 6, 1915 at her parents home near Ashton. Following their marriage they began farming east of George. In 1937 they purchased their farm NW of Ashton. In 1945 they moved to their home in Ashton. They became residents of the Sibley Care Center in May of 1993. Ed died September 20, 1993. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashton and active with its women's organizations. Survivors include a son Marlyn Ackerman and his wife Berdeen of Ashton; 3 daughters, Mrs Gordon (Marvella) Schaa of Little Rock, Mrs Fred (Verda) Bruns of Worthington, MN and Mrs Marvin (Nellie) Bruns of Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter-in-lawFannie Ackerman of Sioux Falls, SD; 27 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 52 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; a son Harvey Ackerman; 2 grandchildren and a great grandson; her parents; 5 sisters; and 4 brothers.

Ed Ackerman was born in 1892. Tena (Graves) Ackerman was born in 1895. they were married in 1915. After moving off the farm they lived in Ashton for 40 years. Ed passed away in 1993 and Tena in 1995. They had five children. Harveymarried Fanny Becker. Marvella is Mrs. Gordon Schaa, Verna is Mrs. Fred Bruns, Nellie is Mrs. Marvin Bruns, and Marilyn married Berdeen Wibben."
