Betty Marie Gettman, 70, of Mendon, Ill. died at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 at Blessing hospital in Quincy. She was born on July 12, 1936, in Burt, a daughter of Harm and Kate (Welp) Groen. She married Jack K. Gettman on Aug. 12, 1956, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Betty was a 1954 graduate of Burt High School. She was a homemaker to her husband and children, whom she loved cooking for. She was also a cook for Unity High School and then for North Adams Home and retired from there as an activitiesaide. She was a very active member of Mendon Congregational Church, where she was involved with the Women's Fellowship and the Cogitator's Sunday School Class. She had a butterfly garden at her home, and truly loved collecting Angels.Surviving are her husband Jack of Mendon, Ill.; her Children Terri (Mark) Woodwrad of Denver, Colo., Randy (Ginger) Gettman of O'Fallon, Mo., Monica (Larry) Foster of Quincy, Ill., Jackie (Steve) Schofield of Crocker, Mo., and Kim Gettmanof Mendon, Ill.; grandchildren Luke and Jake Woodward, Greg and Sam Gettman, Bethany, Rachel and Kate Foster and Brad and Brandon Schofield; and sisters, Kathleen (Gary) Pringle, Gladys (Wilbur) Doege and Velma (Lee) Dixon. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard, Art and John Groen; and sisters Lavina Devine and Patty Langfitt. Services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Mendon Congregational Church by the Rev. Marcy Heil. Burial followed in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Mendon Congregational Church or the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hunterfh.com. The Hunter Funeral home in Mendon has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements." <>
