"Ed RICKS * 3 November 1872 on a farm near Waterloo, IA + 9 January 1941 German Tp., Kossuth Co., IA # 12 January 1941 Ramsey Reformed church cem. north of German Valley, IA oo 8 March 1897 Gertie BERGMAN * 29 January 1876 Ackley, IA ... # 15 Februay 1944 Ramsey Reformed Church cem. north of German Valley, IA ... MRS. ED RICKS AT RAMSEY CHURCH

Mrs. Gertie Ricks nee Gertie Bergman was born at Ackley, in Grundy County, Iowa, on January 29, 1876. There she resided until she was about 9 years of age, when she, with her parents, moved to Kossuth County, to a farm northwest ofTitonka which farm is now known as the parental Bergman home. Here she spent her girlhood days until her marriage to Ed Ricks.

On March 8, 1897, she was united in marriage to Ed Ricks, with the Rev. Jacob Hueneman, pastor of the Reformed church, performing the ceremony. the young couple chose farming as their profession and with the exception of only a few yearsthey lived on the farm that is now known as her earthly home.

Their marriage union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four daughters, all of which reside in this community with the exception of one son, Edger, who is now with the U. S. Army, stationed in England.

About three years ago Mrs. Ricks submitted to a major operation. Although it was a serious operation, she seemed to have recovered quite well, though she was left in a somewhat weakened condition.

She was a woman of a rather quiet disposition - one of few words and no complaints - quietly performing the tasks of her home. The last day of her life seemed to be a normal day as far as her health was concerned. She performed herdaily household tasks and took time to listen to a religious radio program. She retired at her usual time, about nine o'clock on Monday evening. On tuesday morning when her son George paused at her bedroom door to speak to her, as washis custom, she did not respond and upon investigation it was discovered that she had quietly passed away some time during the night. She attained the age of 68 years and 15 days.

Her husband preceded her in death, passing away on January 9, 1941. She leaves to mourn her departure, her aged mother, Mrs. Simon Bergman, seven children, Simon, Ella (Mrs. Harm Boeckholt), Christina (Mrs. John Uken), all of Titonka;Edna (Mrs. Reiner Harringa), of Buffalo Center; Edgar, with the U. S. Army; George, at home; and Harmka (Mrs. Carl Harms), of titonka; also three sisters, mrs. Jake Gigler of Wesley, mrs. Peter Schwartz of Klemme and Mrs. Henry Sunken ofTitonka, besides 17 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Ramsey Reformed church, the pastor, Rev. F. Snuttjer officiating, and interment was made in the Ramsey cemetery beside the grave of her husband. Pallbearers were Wm. Welhousen, HermanDreesman, John cordes, john E. Sleper, Dick Beenken and Edw. Zwiefel.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Janssen and son, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Luppes, Mrs. Cornelius Naber and John J. Koop, all of Kamrar, Iowa."
