Funeral servicews were held Friday afternoon, May 22 from the Ramsey Reformed Church for Benhard Meyer who passed away at the Maple Leaf Nursing home in Burt Wednesday morning, May 20. Rev. William Kroon conducted the service, with theBlake Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Meyer Cemetery, an annex of the German Township Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Henry Baade, Harm Uken, William Spear, Edward Sonnenberg, John Welhousen and Henry Van Hove.
Benhard H. Meyer was born July 21, 1878, in Grundy county, Iowa, the son of Benhard and Alke Meyer. At the age of 9 he moved with his parents to German Township where he grew to manhood.
On March 1, 1899, he was united in marriage to Tena Jaspers, daughter of Harm and Tena Jaspers. To this union 7 children were born - Dick of Algona, Tena (Mrs. Harm Kettwick) of Titonka, Wesley of Elmore, Bert and Della (Mrs. John S.Rippentrop) both of Buffalo Center. Two children died in infancy.
After thir marriage they established their home on a farm in Kossuth County and continued in that occupation until their retirement in 1945 when they moved to their present home in Titonka.
Mr. Meyer became a member of the Ramsey Reformed Church and continued his membership there thoroughout his earthly life. For many years he taught a Sunday School class.
He enjoyed good health for the most part of his life. His health began to fail the early part of this year. He was given all possible care in the home until his condition became more serious. He was taken to the Britt Hospital onFebruary 20 where he remained for 8 days. Then he was removed to the Maple Leaf Nursing Home at Burt where he remained to the end except for 2 weeks that he was privileged to spend at home. His condition became more serious and hereturned to the Nursing Home where all possible care was given to him until he was called to his Eternal Home on Wednesday morning, May 20, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 29 days.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 9 brothers and sisters.
Mr Meyer leaves to mourn his passing his wife, 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 1 brother (Dick) of Mankato, other relatives, and a host of friends.
