Katherine Johnson spells, 'Otjke.' Jean Hull spells, 'Okji.'

Katherine Johnson estimates date of birth between 1863 & 1871 - 2 Nov 1992

La Rie Hull writes, "Received from Germany the following information of Hinderk and Meina Groen Family; Okje Groen born June 21, 1865 in Tichelwarf ..." and "P.S. Talked to Gesina Heyer about Kordes--story is that he was a drinker and Grandpa Heyer (Hinderk) talked to him about it. They left Grandpa's home and family never heard much from them after that. (For what ever this is worth)' - vi Dec MCMXCIII - Fergus Fls., MN

Katherine Johnson writes, "I got this from LaRie Hull. She got it either at Morman place in N.D. or someone sent it to her." - xxv Feb MCMXCIV - Milbank, SD

Published in the Feb. 1994 Ostfriesen Genealogical Society Newsletter is this enquiry from Katherine Johnson, "I am also searching for Herman and Otkje (Opal) Cordes or Kordes. I know they were in Parkersburg, IA in 1904. They had two daughters, Tina and Laura. Laura married Herman Hector."

Author: Hull, Jean, Title: Letter to Katherine Johnson, (Publication location: Inwood WV, Publisher: JH, Publication date: ix May MCMXCIV)

Jean Hull FGS 2 May 1994 gives Wener, Ost Friesland for place of birth.

My hypothesis is the information was obtained from Weener Reformed Chr. parish records which may be where the Groen family, living in Tichelwarf, worshipped. - D.A. Navorska - Irving, TX

Marjorie Wegner writes, "Her [Bertha C Hoffman] parents lived on a farm North East of Parkersburg [IA] near the town of New Alvion. The town is gone now but the New Alvion Cemetery is just a half mile west of where they lived. HermanCordes 1864-1945, Anna Cordes 1865-1941, and Grace Cordes 1906-1935 Wife and Mother, are all buried on the same lot."

This would indicate one of the male children of Herman & Anna Cordes was married to a woman named Grace & that Grace had at least 1 child

Marjorie Weger writes, "A Milo Groen (Groan)? graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1936. Don't know if he is related or not." ca. Apr MCMXCIV
