"JOHN AND ALICE (BICKER) HONKEN

John Honken was born in Ostfriesland, Germany on April 23, 1882. His parents Henry and Maria (Hindricks) Honken, ... John decided to return to Illinois. While living there, he met Alice Bicker of Pearl City, Illinois. She was the daughter of William and Sabrina (Penticoff) Bicker. She was born on November 6, 1881, spending most of her early life in that vicinity. In March of 1903, John and Alilce were united in marriage at Freeport, Illinois.

A few years after their marriage the couple moved to Buffalo Center with their children, Harry and Alvin.

... John ... was taken to the Buffalo Center Hospital ... appendicitis attack and gangrene had set in. ... He died a few days later in the hospital ... He died in March of 1935.

Alice died after a lengthy bout with leukemia. She died on February 8, 1961. ... Harry, the eldest son, married Margaret Smith of Buffalo Center. Margaret taught school for many years before and after they were married. ... Harry and Margaret are the parents of one son, Gary. Gary married Francile Retland ofThompson, Iowa; to this union were born two sons, Paul and Tom, and they adopted a daughter, Holly. Harry and Margaret are great-grandparents of one boy, Blaze. Gary and Fran reside in Saudi Arabia. ..."

"Harry E. Honken, 91

Funeral services for Harry E. Honken, 91, of Buffalo Center will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2 in the First Congregational Church,. Buffalo Center. Visitation will be Thursday, June 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Winter Funeral Homein Buffalo Center and one hour before the service at the church.

Harry passed away Tuesday, May 30, 1995 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Rev. Jim Sullivan will conduct the services. Organist Kathi Nelson will provide music along with vocalists Loren and Lucy Larson singing "Sweet, Sweet Spirit" and "I Found A Friend". The congregation will sing "No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus".

... Casketbearers will be Paul and Tom Honken, Tim and Jeff Heitland, Randy and Dan Smith.

Harry E. Honken, son of John and Alice (Bicker) Honken, was bom March 5, 1904 in Freeport, Illinois.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Smith May 23, 1928 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Harry was a member of the First Congregational Church of Buffalo Center and served on the Board of Deacons. Harry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior while a young man. He farmed in the Thompson area for a time in their early years of marriage.

In 1936 they moved to Buffalo Center where he then established Honken Transfer and hog buying station. In 1941 he entered into the Allis Chalmers farm equipment business and sold this to Hardy Jordal in 1951. He continued in the hogbuying business until his retirement in 1965.

He is survived by his wife. Margaret, of 67 years; one son, Gary and wife, Francile, of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; two grandsons: Paul, Tom and wife, Lenna Krausc; one granddaughter. Holly; two great-grandchildren: Blaze and Rachael; two brothers, Ray of Buffalo Center and Alvin of Tilonka; one sister. Hazel Peterson of the Northwood Care Center and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers."
