Notes about Arthur Jennings Lavallee

Arthur was a toolmaker by trade and came from a creative and artistic family. When he was still a young boy, he learned to play the flute and became a member of the Lafayette Drum and Bugle Corps in 1913. Arthur played in, and was the director of, a fife and drum corps in Holyoke and he continued to play and teach the flute and piccolo in a marching band until the mid 1950s. The marches by John Philip Souza were a particular favorite of his Corps and he marched and played his flute and piccolo in all the local parades.
