James Albert Kane, of Kearny, died on Friday, April 15, 2005. He was 80.

Born in Westfield, he was raised in Jersey City and lived in Kearny for many years. He died in Meadowlands Hospital, Secaucus.

Employed by Travelers Insurance Co. in New York City and Morris Plains as an industrial engineer for 27 years, retiring 20 years ago.

He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy in New London, Conn. before entering the Army and serving during the Korean War.

After being discharged from the Army he returned to the Merchant Marines before beginning his career as an engineer.

Previously, he was employed by Esso Standard Oil and Grace Lines as a stationary engineer.

Beloved husband of the late Dolores (nee Degre), he was the devoted father of Edward and his wife Rosa, James and his wife Catherine, Patrick and his wife Maureen and Christopher Kane; loving brother of Susan Reynolds, Jeanette Urbano, Anna, Rose, Michael, Francis and John Kane and the late Patrick Kane; cherished grandfather of Dolores, Lina, Nell, Seamus, Catherine, Sean, Liam and Brendan; dear brother-in-law of Rita Kane.
