A family archive is private. Still, every archive has a public page. It is needed so that family members can find your archive and request access.

What is public?

  • The name of the archive and the description you wrote.
  • Your name as archivist.
  • The number of participants.
  • The link to your publication on Genealogy Online, if you have linked it.
  • News items you have made public yourself.
  • The button to make an access request.

Your archive is also listed in the overview of all family archives. Public news items also appear in the RSS feeds of Family Archivist.

What is not public?

  • All photos, documents and stories.
  • All responses.
  • The names and e-mail addresses of participants.
  • Private news items and newsletters.

Search engines such as Google only see the public part. Your photos and stories are never found through a search engine.
