With a news item you tell the family what is new. A record you found, a new branch in the family tree, a family day. Only you as archivist can post news items. Participants can respond to them.
By default a news item is private. Only participants see it after logging in. You can also make an item public. Then it appears on the public page of your archive and anyone on the internet can read it. Responses always remain for participants only.
Public items are useful to show that your archive is alive. A distant relative who finds your archive then sees at once what you are working on. Do take care: put no details or photos of living persons in a public item.
Making items public is a feature of the Plus subscription.
