Question/answer » Someone is asking for access to my family archive, what now?

The public page of your family archive has a button Make an access request. Someone who finds your archive can use it to ask to join. For example a distant cousin who recognises your family name.

What happens?

The applicant fills in their name, e-mail address and a short explanation. You receive these details as an e-mail. Family Archivist does not store the request. You decide what to do with it.

What can I do?

  • Admit: add the person as a participant via Participants. He or she then receives an invitation.
  • Ask first: send an e-mail back and ask how the person is related.
  • Refuse: do nothing, or let them know. You do not have to admit anyone.

Remember that your archive may contain photos and stories of living family members. Only admit people you trust.
