    Maart 20 - Over de grens bij Lobith ontploft een lading dynamiet[1]. De lading; 9.000 kisten met 225.000 kg gewicht op 6 schepen. Even na 18.30u klinkt een harde explosie enkele sec.later gevolgd door 2 explosies. Eén vd schepen was ontploft, met 13 doden als gevolg. Tot 10 km in de omgeving sneuvelen ruiten. Als een wonder worden de andere schepen gespaard ondanks dat er2 schepen waren gezonken. De knal is zelfs tot in Friesland/Groningen opgemerkt. In de Achterhoek denken de mensen dat er een aardbeving is.

    Een wachtschip - schip van de wacht - is in de klassieke betekenis van een drijvende kazerne in een marinehaven. Voornamelijk voor de huisvesting van (licht)matrozen en mariniers. Werd er met een wachtschip gevaren, dan werd het gebruikt om te voorkomen dat ongewenste indringers zich in de buurt ophielden.
