m. Anna Scott, Duchess of Buccleuch (b 11.02.1651, d 06.02.1732, dau of Francis Scott, 2nd Earl of Buccleuch)
The Duke claimed that his father (King Charles II) had married his mother (Lucy Walters) and had himself proclaimed as King. He was executed after defeat by King James II at the battle of Sedgemoor (06.071685). His title was forfeited but his wife had been declared Duchess in her own right. Hence the dukedom continued after her death.
