Notes about Jerry Jarigs Dykstra

Jerry J. Dykstra, 84 of Everett, died January 27, 2007. He was born on January 12, 1923 near White, South Dakota, son of Jake and Seibja Dykstra.

He entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps on active duty in January 1941 and served in hospital units in orthopedics in England during WWII. He was honorably discharged in December 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being discharged, he graduated from Parks School of Business Administration in Denver, Colorado in 1947.
On June 10, 1944, he married Adelaide T. Anderson in Waukegan, Illinois. They moved to Everett in 1952 with their two children, John and Mary Jane.
Jerry was in the Life Insurance business for 40 years, spending 34 years with Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance Society. During those years he was engaged in the sale of Life and Health Insurance, annuities and mutual funds. He retired in 1990.
Community service was important to Jerry and he demonstrated it by serving on the Board of Directors of Bethany of the Northwest and the Bethany Foundation for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Everett Rotary from 1970 to present maintaining perfect attendance and receiving a Paul Harris Fellow.
As an active member of Central Lutheran Church in Everett for more that 50 years, Jerry served many years as a council member, treasurer, Head Usher and Sunday School teacher.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry; and his wife, Adelaide.
He is survived by his son, Dr. John (Kelly) Dykstra, of Lake Stevens, WA; daughter, Mary Jane (Dan) Hahn, of Randle, Washington; granddaughter, Emily; grandson, Kevin; step-granddaughters, Kelsey (Greg) Garka, and Kara Burt; step-great granddaughter, Ryleigh Bustad; sister, Sadie Brendle, of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout his lifetime, he touched many lives and nurtured many friendships.
Viewing will be from 10–5pm, Wednesday, at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs Feb 1, 2007, at Central Lutheran Church, Everett.
