Henry Dykstra was born in June 1925 in the small city of White, Brookings County, located in the eastern part of South Dakota. It had in 1920 594 people, in 1930 533.

In April 1930 Henry Dykstra (4, South Dakota, his father Jake Dykstra (35, Holland, immigrated in 1914, farmer), mother Sadie (36, Holland, immigrated in 1918), sister children Sadie (9, Iowa) and brother Jerry (7, South Dakota) were living in ArgoTownship, Brookings County, located in the eastern part of South Dakota, just northwest of White.

In April 1940 Henry Dykstra (15, South Dakota), his father Jake Dykstra (45, Holland, house painter), mother Sadie (46, Holland) and brother Jerry (17, South Dakota) were living in their own house, worth $1200, in Sibley, the seat of Osceola County,located in the extreme northwestern part of Iowa. They lived in 1935 in the same house.
Sibley had in 1940 2,356 people.

From September 27, 1943 until February 12, 1946 Henry Dykstra served in the US Army, from June 8, 1944 until February 4, 1946 abroad.

On August 1, 1946 Henry "Hap" Dykstra from the city of Rock Rapids, the seat of Lyon County, located in the extreme northwestern part of Iowa, married the also 41 years old Dorothy Ann Post Postma in the city of Sanborn, O'Brien County, located in the nortwestern part of Iowa, and settled in Sibley, where he began working as a carpenter.

In May 1949 Henry Hap Dykstra was residing at 1006 9th Avenue, Sibley, Osceola County, Iowa.

Henry Dykstra died in August 1969 at the age 45 years in Sibley. His widow Dorothy Ann died in June 2001 at the age of almost 76 years, after becoming ill at her home in Sibley.

Survivors include a son Glenn and Janet Dykstra of Sibley; three daughters; Cheryl and Ray Gruis of Sibley, Renee and David Everding of Sibley, and Lori and Rick Schaa of Ashton.
