Former Alaska resident Ronald Irvin Engelby, 69, died Nov. 14, 2009, in Tucson, Ariz.
Ron's memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Tucson. The family requests that you honor Ron by wearing his favorite color, purple.
He was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.
Ron was a gentle man with boundless love for family and friends and with a deep and unwavering faith that allowed him to face the end of life's journey with uncommon courage and grace.
A resident from 1982 to 1998, Ron was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Anchorage, part owner of Anchorage True Value Hardware, and an avid fisherman, especially at the Russian River.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Brenda; sons, Ronald, Timothy, Daniel and his wife Alissa; and daughter, Elisabeth and husband Rich. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet (Wilford), Karen and Nelda; and his grandsons, Mark, Scott, Adam, Aaron, Noah and Olafur.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Tucson.
