Retired City Fireman is Dead at 75
J. Kenneth Pittenger, 75, 2400 White River Blvd., retired Muncie fireman, died early Sunday morning at Country Manor Nursing Home in Dunkirk following an extended illness.
He was born in Delaware County, the son of Jarvis and Callie Price Pittenger, attended country schools, and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
Mr Pittenger was a member of the Muncie Fire Department for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He was a member of Muncie Lodge 433 F. and A.M., Chapter, Council, Shrine. He was also a member of Delaware Post 19, American Legion and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving besides his wife, Helen Maynard Pittenger, are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mary Jane) McKee, Muncie, Mrs. R. W. (Leora) Jackson, Peru; two sons, Kenneth E. Pittenger, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Gerald C. Pittenger, Scotts Valley, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Alice) Conger, Coal City, Ind.; a brother, Cleo Pittenger, New Haven, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be held at Meeks Mortuary at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Earl Vaughn, pastor of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge.
Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and any time before the services Tuesday.
Muncie Lodge 433 F. and A.M. will conduct memorial services at the mortuary at 7:30 p.m. Monday."
