(Mrs. Floyd) Briggs passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack last Friday afternoon, Feb. 10 at the Plains Medical Center in Limon where the cast was being removed from her right arm. She was visiting with the doctor when stricken. She was injured in a fall during a windstorm in December and was hospitalized in Denver for a number of weeks. In January she was able to be moved to the Nursing Home in Limon. She was in good spirits as she was looking forward to returning home. Services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 13 at the First Congregational Church in Flagler with the pastor, Rev. Harvey Griffith, presiding. "Beyond the Sunset" and"In the Garden" were sung by Mrs. Jean Mudd and Mrs. Freda Stevens. Mrs. Pat Balman was the organist. Casket bearers were John Shulda, Herman Fritzler, Ralph Conrad, Art Gaines, Jr., Arnold Polzin and Dave Rowden. Interment was in the Flagler Cemetery with the Love Funeral Home of Limon in charge of arrangements. Metta G. Briggs was born on December 5, 1893 in Dundee County, Nebraska, one of the five children of Douglas and Lillian Harrison. She went to school and grew up in Clay Center, Neb. and on February 5, 1919, she was married to Floyd G. Briggs at Clay Center. The Briggs' became the parents of two sons, Kenneth L. Brigs, deceased, and Lawrence D. Briggs of Garden Grove, California. The Briggs moved to Flagler in 1922 and to their present farm, just north of Flagler in 1943. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Flagler where she was an active member. During the 1930's she served as superintendent of the primary department of the Sunday School for many years and was always active in the Ladies Aid. She belonged to the Country Club and was active and enjoyed the SOS the past few years. Survivors include Mr. Briggs; her son, Lawrence Briggs; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Bess Harrison of Clay Center, Nebr. and Beulah Mohnike of Hastings, Nebr. as well as other relatives and friends. A sister, Bertha Thorpe and a brother, George Harrison preceded her in death as did her son, Kenneth.
