VAN DYKEN, PETER JOHN Peter John Van Dyken passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday the 12th of November, of an apparent heart attack, at the age of 44. He had been camping with his sons, at a local campground. He is survived by his wife Jennifer and his sons, Joshua and Richard, as well as daughters, Sara, Vanessa, Ashley. Tashina, and Monique. Pete's parents are Col Harold B. and Esther Van Dyken, who now reside in Chula Vista. He came from a large family. Sisters Barbara Van Dyken of San Diego, Lisa Van Dyken (Valley Center), Vanessa Van Dyken (Coronado) and Sandra Elahi (Napa). Brothers: Robert (Lemon Grove), Bill, (Aurora, CO) and Bart (Salt Lake City, UT). Pete was a warm personality, likeable, and caring man who always had something to share. A long time San Diego County resident, he started, owned and operated his own business as a landscape contractor, Pomerado Landscape. He was a loyal husband and good father, and he will be sorely missed by his large family. Pete loved music, and collected acoustic and electric guitars, collecting and fixing up old cars, camping, fishing, and the outdoors. Outspoken and warm, quick with a smile and a joke for his friends. You never had to say "Pete, tell us how you really feel." He would often have a guitar, and bring music to family gatherings. Pete, You live on in our hearts. Rest in Peace.... "It's better to burn out, than fade away.." A Memorial Mass will be held at The Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception at 10:30 AM on November 21st (Tuesday) at 2540 San Diego Ave, San Diego California. An informal reception will follow at Presidio Park adjacent to Old Town San Diego. Ashes are to be scattered at sea in a private ceremony.
