Gertrude Jansonius was the third child born to John and Margaret NymeyerJansonius. She was born on the Grundy County farm that their folks owned.Not many years later they moved to their Butler County farm where sheattended the Island Grove School along with her brothers and sisters.
In 1902 she married George Peters, who emigrated to Ackley in 1894,from East Friesland with his mother, Mrs. Peter Peters, brother Diedrick(age 15) and a sister. He worked on farms, probably very near theJansonius and Brass farms as his brother Diedrick married Maggie Brass.After marriage, George and Gertrude lived on a Jansonius place nearGeneva, Iowa. (Betty and Calvin Jansonius now live on the place.)Gertrude died in childbirth on Feb. 8, 1904, but baby George JansoniusPeters lived. Baby George was brought up by his mother's family where hehad six doting unmarried aunts. He continued to live with hisgrandparents, moving to town with them in 1918. His grandfather Johndied in 1920 and then he spent much of his high school years. with hisAunt Ida and Uncle George Humke. He graduated from high school in 1922,the same year his father George Peters died. Reemt U. Harken wasguardian (for George J. Peters) of his mother's interest in thegrandparents estate. George graduated from Iowa State in 1928 with ade Gree in forestry. Subsequently he moved to Pennsylvania and marriedHilda Mays in November 1928. They had three daughters.
George Peters, Sr. continued to live for a while on the farm, butlater moved to a farm east if Ackley. He died at the age of 44 in 1922.
