"Harriet M. Brown, 68 Funeral services for Harriet M. Brown, 68, were held Monday, October 6, 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Winter Funeral Homein charge of arrangements.
Organist was Vera Bronlewee and soloist was Brian Kramermeier. Honorary casketbearers were Harriet's grandchildrem: Teresa, Todd, Dawn, Michael, Dean, Brian, Ann, Stacey, Jill, Lois, Brandon, Matthew, Jeremy and Jeffrey. Casketbearerswere Ronald Hanna, James Anderson, Dennis Carzoli, Brad Meier, Ronald Brooks, and Harold Eisenman.
Harriet Margine Brown, daughter of Henry and Maggie (Sleper) Janssen, was born February 17, 1929 at Buffalo Center. She graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1946. Harriet taught for a while in a country school near BuffaloCenter.
On June 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to Merle Lester Brown. This union was blessed with four children: Marlys, Melvin, Margie and Merlyn. Harriet and Merle farmed near Scarville then later they moved to a farm in Linden township.And in the spring of 1997, Harriet moved into Buffalo Center.
Harriet worked as a dietary cook at the Titonka Nursing Home and was supervisor for many years at the Forest City Nursing Home. She was a member of First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center and was active in several organizations within herchurch. Harriet was active with Senior Citizens, Elderbridge and was also a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards and reading.
Harriet passed away on Friday, October 3, 1997 at her home in Buffalo Center at the age of 68 years.
She will be missed by her children and families: Marlys Schwebach and her husband, Rod, of Alton; Melvin and his wife, Cindy Lou of Bricelyn, Minnesota; Margie Hoeft and special friend, Richard Brighton, of Leland; Merlyn and his wife,Cindy Jo, of Kanawha. Also by 11 grandchildren, three step-grand-children, and by four sisters-in-law: Blanche Brown of Mason City, Velma Brown of Britt, Marlene Oudekerk and husband, Albert of Mason City and by Viola Brown of ForestCity as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-father, her husband, Merle, in 1990, and by a son-in-law, Jim Hoeft." <>
