Mrs. Roelf Janssen, nee Gertje Voogd, was born March 30, 1863, at Hinte Eastfriesland, Germany; she died July 21, 1933 at Titonka, Iowa. She reached the goodly age of 70 years, 3 months and 22 days. On the 19th of April, 190 she wasunited in marriage to Roelf H. Janssen at Rysen Eastfriesland, Germany. Together they came to America and settled in this region. To this union seven children were born: Gertie, who so faithfully took care of the mother during the longyears of her illness and is still living at home; Bena (Mrs. Ben Gerdes), Rika (Mrs. John Cordes), Gesina (Mrs. George Heyer) and Roni, all of this immediate neighborhood; Andrew of Crystal Lake, and Henry who preceded his mother indeath three years ago. She leaves behind, her sorrowing husband, two sons, four daughters, and twelve grandchildren; besides these she leaves behind a brother and two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, three daughters-in-law and threesons-in-law in this country. A host of friends and relatives mourn her departure.
Onn the 12th of March, 1911, with her husband, Mrs. Janssen was received into the communion and fellowship of the Ramsay Reformed church upon confession of her faith in Jesus Churist. From that day on she was ever a faithful member.During the time that she lived in Titonkka she had been sick continually; in the last four of five days ...in the last four or five years she could only help herself with great difficulty, being confined to a wheel chair. Although shewas unable to take part in church and community affairs, her christian character and influence impressed themselves upon everyone who went to visit her in her home. Always friendly and filled with goodness, her personality will live onin the hearts of her friends. After much suffering she was colled home Friday morning at one o'clcok." <>
