Funeral services for Annie Risius, 95, were held Monday, September 9 at Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Elwin Walvatne officiated. Music was provided by organist Carol Asmus and the congregation. Casketbearers wereRon Anderson, Richard Thompson, Elwin Haugen, Peter Van Gerpen, Glendon Matheson and Bennett Quamme. Honorary casketbearer was Ron Boettcher. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Annie passed away at the Lake MillsCare Center on Thursday, September 5, 2002. Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Annie Risius, daughter of Cort and Annie Rippentrop, was born on July 16, 1907 on a farm near Titonka. She lived on a farm near Lakota until her marriage to Jake Risius on December 21, 1927 at the First Congregational Church in BuffaloCenter. They farmed together near Lakota and Stevens and Frost, Minnesota before moving to a farm near Rake where they spent 42 years together before moving into Rake. Annie and Jake enjoyed their home in town for 20 years until Jake's death on November 20, 1997. She lived at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Blue Earth, Minnesota until 1998 when she moved to the Lake Mills Care Center to be closer to her son, Norman. She enjoyed visits from many of her old friends and fromher new friends she made in Lake Mills.
Annie is survived by her three sons: Marvin and his wife, Fran, of Boalsburg, Pennsylvania; Norman and his wife, Marvis, of Lake Mills; Larry and his wife, Kathy, of Lafayette, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; onegreat-great-granddaughter; a sister, Dena Gable, of Arnolds Park; a brother, George Rippentrop, of Buffalo Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; three sisters and four brothers."
