"Van Briesen, Walter - Gladys Duin
Walter, the son of Leonard and Harmky Ackerman Van Briesen, married Gladys, who is the daughter of Herman and Tillie Janssen Duin. The couple lived all their lives at George and they were active in farming. Later, Walter worked atSudenga Industries and Gladys was a hot lunch cook at the school. The family attended the Zoar Presbyterian Church and their children were all graduates of the local school.

George, Iowa Lawrence Stubbe, age 77 of George, IA died Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Sanford Medical Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1st at Zoar Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dale Lint, Officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Lawrence Henry Stubbe was born March 11, 1930, at George, IA the son of Henry H. and Bessie (Mammenga) Stubbe. Lawrence grew up in George where he attended school. From 1953 until 1955, Lawrence serviced his country during the Korean War. His rank was Private First Class and his duties included driving truck. Upon his honorable discharge from the United State Army, he returned home to George and transferred to the Army reserve until 1961. Before entering the service, Lawrence worked for the town of George and upon his return he took a position at the George Lumber Yard as a counterman from 1961 until 1985 when he retired. On August 14, 1970, Lawrence was united in marriage to Doris Van Briesen at Zoar Presbyterian Church at George. They made their home in George for all of their married life together. In 1991, Doris died and Lawrence continued to live in their home until November of 2003, when he became a resident of the Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Rock Rapids and later moved to the George Good Samaritan Center in George. Lawrence was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church where he had held several offices. He also was an active member of the American Legion in George for many years. He enjoyed attending sales, working on a wood project, or going to machinery and antique events and traveling to Branson, MO. Lawrence also pulled many floats through many parades over the years. This past Monday, October 29, 2007, Lawrence died at the Sanford Medical Center in Rock Rapids at the age of seventy-seven. He is survived by a sister, Jayne Early of Sioux City, IA; mother-in-law, Gladys Van Briesen of George; sisters-in-law, Thelma Van Briesen of George; LaDonn and her husband, Norwood Geerdes of George; Brothers-in-law, Larry and his wife, Carol Van Briesen of Ellsworth, MN; Paul and his wife, Angela Van Briesen of George; along with many nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, Henry and Bessie, two sisters, Betty and Leona and a father-in-law, Walter Van Briesen. Blessed be his memory."
