James Thomas Stamps, born June 27, 1796 in Georgia. He marriedAnna Davis Hendricks on Jan. 07, 1818 in Oglethorpe Co.1 In 1825 theymoved to Coweta County, wh ere, on July 17, 1829, James bought 202° acresin the 5th District from L.L. Baldwin. Anna died prior to the 1830 census. After her death, James married (2nd)Elizabeth Freeman on Sept. 09, 1830 atC ovington, Newton Co. Theceremony was performed by McCormick Neal.2 Elizabeth was born ca. 1810 During the War of 1812, James served under his father, Captain MosesStamps. Pension No. 20567 states t hat he volunteered in Jefferson Countyand was discharged at Fort Hawkins. The 1830 census of Coweta County indicates James' age as 30 to 40. Nochildren were listed. By the taking of the 1840 census of Coweta County,his second wife was 20 to 30 and they had 2 sons and 2 daughters under5.
