BARONY OF FURNIVALLE (IV, 5)
WILLIAM (DE FOURNIVALLE or FURNIVALLE), LORD FURNIVALLE, next brother andheir, born at Alton, 23 August 1326. On 25 May 1365 the King took hishomage and fealty, and he had livery of the lands, and on 28 October 1366of the knights' fees and advowsons, of his inheritance. He obtainedlicence, 28 November 1367, to go from Dover to the parts of Prussia, withfive horsemen, and £200 in money. The park of Worksop, which had beentaken into the King's hand because it was insufficiently enclosed, wasrestored to him, 16 November 1372. On 24 October 1375, being, it wassaid, too infirm to appear in the King's Courts, he had lettersappointing his attorneys. Previous to the Coronation of Richard II, heclaimed that he held the manor of Farnham Royal with the hamlet of Seer,Bucks, par le service de trouer a nostre seignur le Roi le iour de souncoronement a sa mayne dextere une gaunt et de supporter le dextere brachede nostre dit seignur le Roi mesme le iour devientiers qil la vergeroiale en sa mayn tendra. His claim to perform this service was allowed,provided that he first took knighthood: and the King knighted him, atKennington, on the Tuesday before the Coronation [14 July 1377]. He didhomage to Richard II at the Coronation, 16 July. He was summoned toParliament from 20 January 1365/6 to 7 January 1382/3, by writs directedWillelmo de Furnyvall', Fournyvall', or the like.
He married, between 3 February 1364/5 and 20 January 1365/6, Thomasine,widow of Sir John DE DAGWORTH, of Dagworth, Suffolk, and Bradwell, Essex(who was aged 24 and more, or 26 and more, in 1351], married her before17 June 1353 and died 16 August 1360). He died s.p.m., 12 April 1383,aged 56, and was buried in Worksop Priory. On 9 June 1383 his widow hadlivery of the manor of Dagworth, Suffolk, her homage and fealty thereforbeing respited, and of Dagworths, manor in Elmdon, &c., Essex, the Priorof Worksop being commanded to take her fealty therefor, which manors sheand her 2nd husband had held as in her right: at the same time sheobtained possession of the manors of Worksop, Lyam, Stoney Middleton,Bittesby, Stoke Verdon, Wilsford, &c., of which she and her said husbandhad been jointly enfeoffed. On 22 June following she had livery of diverstenements in Sheffield and its members, and on 12 February 1384/5 of 31/2 knights' fees and two advowsons, all of which the King had assignedto her in dower.
