Know all men by these presents that I have this day sold my negro slave Suckey & her child Caledonia to Richard H. SIMS, for the sum of five dollars to me in hand paid, & the other considerations herein after mentioned, I warrant them to be sound in body & mind & Slaves for life, But this sale is made upon this express condition, that if the firm of McQUIDDY & OSBORNE, or their representatives, do secure and save harmless the said Richard H. SIMS & John STREETER, who are the Securities of the Sd McQUIDDY & OSBORNE, in a note of hand Given to David ELKINS for seven hundred dollars, dated the last of the year 1837 or beginning the year of 1838 and due the 25th Decr. 1838 - Now the said McQUIDDY & OSBORNE shall well and truly pay the said Note of $700, together with the interest thereon, then this Instrument to be void, else to remain in full force & virtue according to Law. SIMS his heirs & assigns forever, but this conveyance is made upon the express condition that if I or my representatives do pay to David ELKIN one note of hand, Given about the first of January 1838 due and payable the 25th Decr. 1838 or the 1st of January 1839, whereon the said Richard H.
