Born on the Fry farm in Fowler CO. It was so cold that October Grannie feared for his life. She set him close to the old wood burner for warmth.
The night before Daddy died, after weeks of pain from the cancer eating away, he brought Mom, Bonnie and Donna together. He asked if he could stand, with a little help he did. He stood himself as erect, tall and proud as ever. Daddy then told us easily as though he were not in pain and with his beautiful eyes as bright as before he was ill, with that glint of such warmth in them, "Thank you for caring for me here, you all did so much for good care, now I am free to fly like a bird". He stood through all our hugs though it must have pained him so, through our tears, we had, thanks to God and that Fry tenacity such a last beautiful moment together. He told Mom he wanted to be home when he passed on and she graciously upheld his wishes.
This a quote from Jeromy, "He was the finest man I ever knew." He always played with his grand kids and had special projects lined up for our visits to them. Science stuff and building things. Once they settled down in Phoenix after all their travels he set up croquet for each visit also. I finally learned the dead mans float from Dad, swim a lot in Phoenix. He taught us to fish and camp and have fun, Mom was beside him in all he did without hesitation.
He led me to the knowledge it is best to think of other people first and be a server. To see the good in people and never judge another, that is for God not man. Wherever he worked, Iran, Venezuela, Indonesia or here in the states his crew genuinely loved him because Dad was so generous of heart. Some of the Americans in the foreign states thought it odd to associate with the locals but the love of people both Mom and Dad have, that was the best part of the foreign countries.
The song he called most at Church was "In the Garden" ," I come to the Garden alone while the dew is still on the roses, and He walks with me and He talks to me, the Son of God is calling"
I was the troublemaker, allright Bon I will admit it after all these years. Bonnie is grateful though because she did not make the same mistakes I did to get in trouble, or was she more clever? Anyway, his patience was very long. Mom was a buffer a few times though. He would get his look in his eye and all he had to do was use that and hop into line we would. He reached for his belt, NEVER used it, "THE LOOK" was all it took. It was so out of character for his Gentle Kind nature we really took head.
He was a teacher, respected and did not talk down to anyone. That was how be founded the Apprentice Program for the Union at Heating and Plumping Engineers here in the Springs. Allways thought of how to help others. He was meticulous with his Pipefittings though and oftern complained of the shoddy work he had to fix. He helped to build our house, the house I live in. He did the Ape house at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Supervisor and the New, now old County Jail downtown. DA
After I left home BLou got in on some good close years with Mom and Dad on her own without trouble around. Hippie me still got in trouble and returned home. DA
