Gravestone reads: "Dyer, William, Dr., died 27 July 1738, aged about 85 years."
The Dyer family is an ancient one in Somerset County, England. Some of them were titled. The Dyer family was severely persecuted by King James and was especially condemned for loyalty to Charles I.
Dr. William Dyer, when Truro was incorporated on July 16, 1709, was a proprietor. In 1710 he was one of the 20 owners of cattle of a large Danish breed, yellow in color, which were brought over by Francis Small.
William lived at Truro before the original proprietors came, though the births of his children are recorded in Barnstable.
The house built by Doctor Dyer, in Truro, was occupied after his death by his son Ebenezer, who by will dated June 2, 1773, gave to his son, Fulk Dyer, "my Dwelling house wherein I now live and the lands adjoining thereto formerly called Doct. Dyers homestead." Fulk Dyer lived there until his death, in 1814, in his eighty second year. The inventory of his estate includes the "land called the homestead whereon the house and other buildings standeth.... $150.00, One Dwelling House..... $250.00." The old house, last occupied by Captain Ebenezer Atkins, was taken down since 1865. [Small Genealogy]

Family moved to Truro Abt 1701.

'''WILLIAM 2 DYER'''
William 2 Dyer was born about 1653; the place of his birth is unknown. " The Marriage of William Dier & Mary Taylor Decem'r 1686," is recorded with the births of theirchildren, in Barnstable. Mary3 Taylor was daughter to Henry2 Taylor, of Barnstable, who married December 19,1650, Lydia2 Hatch.
Lydia2 Hatch was sister to Jonathan2, and daughter to Thomas1 and Grace Hatch, of Barnstable, formerly of Scituate.Volume 3 page 1197 Adrian Stanley 31 May 2015Lora Altine Woodbury Underhill, ''Descendants of Edward Small of New England,'' Vol.3.

FLOWERS 21Dr. Dyer resided in Barnstable from about 1686, and moved to Truro approximately 1705. He was born in England.

Dr. William of Barnstable, b. 1653.
Settled at Truro before the proprietors.
He m. 1686, Mary, dau of Wm. Taylor of B.The house occupied by the late Capt. Ebenezer Atkins taken down within the last twenty years, was built by him. The gravestones from which we copy, are still in good condition in the Old North.

The old doctor had a knack of keeping in hot water with his neighbors, and like Tristam Shandy's father, had a spice inhis temper known by the name of perseverance in a good cause, and obstinacy in a bad one. I should do great injustice to a long line of descendants, justly proud of their ancestors,to deny them a like precious inheritance. His family allmarried and settled around him, soon became among the largest and most influential in town ; a position maintained to this day.

Children:
i. Lydia, b. 1688.
ii. William Junisimus, b. 1690, m. Hannah,
iii. Jonathan, b. 1692, m. Phebe. 2d, Hannah,
