== Biography ==
:William Clark, son of Joseph Clark and his unknown first wife, was born about 1645, and died September 30, 1683. He was commander of a sloop taken by the government during King Philip's War (1676), and was also captain of a company of militia. On August 1, 1679, he petitioned the Assembly concerning several Indians captured by him and his company in time of war. The case was referred to the town councils of Newport and Portsmouth. In 1677 he purchased land in Boston Neck, Noth Kingston. William Clark married Hannah Weeden, daughter of William Weeden; she died in 1722.''History of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations''. Biographical. :Could not have died in 1767 if his will was dated 1769 and probated in 1770.. Birth was recorded in Charlestown Records as 27 May 1673. (from J. Bonevic) NOTE: these dates reference the son William, not this William. See son's profile. The will date of 1769 is a transcription error, it is 1767, probate 1770.
