== Biography == Rose Kerrich (possibly Keridge in some sources?), daughter of William Kerrich and his wife Margery Unknown, was baptized 13 April 1572 at Westhorpe, Suffolk, England. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, October 1921 (Clark -Cook). She married at Saxtead, Suffolk on 13 May 1600 Thomas Clarke of Westhorpe. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, October 1921 (Clark -Cook). ''Genealogical Research in England: Clarke-Cooke alias Carewe - Kerrich.''By G. Andrews Moriarty. [https://books.google.com/books?id=88sUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA279&lpg=PA279&dq#v=onepage&q&f=false pg 279] where they had 8 known children. Note that Morrison in "Clarke Families of Rhode Island" The Clark Families Of Rhode Island by George Austin Morrison,JR. page 14https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/25534-redirectiongives the couple only 7 children, he lists Margaret only once but according to Moriarty there was an earlier Margaret who died young (see page 277 of NEHGR vol 75 for Clarke baptisms in Westhorpe; a burial record for the first Margaret is not listed so presumably Moriarty assumes she had died as the name was re-used for the 2nd Margaret, a reasonable assumption for a daughter).
Rose died on 19 Sep 1627 and was buried at Westhorpe on 20 Sep 1627 as was her husband Thomas on 30 Jul 1627. see page 279.
Rose had an older, first cousin of the same name, daughter of William's brother John. Moriarty in his analysis of wills, parish records etc. of these families identifies this Rose as the wife of Thomas Clarke as follows:
''That the wife of Thomas Clarke was Rose, daughter of William Kerrich, and not Rose, daughter of John Kerrich, William's brother, is shown by the will of Robert Kerrich, the grandfather of these two cousins, which proves that Rose, daughter of John, was older than Rose, daughter of William. Joseph Clarke, the youngest child of Thomas and Rose (Kerrich) Clarke, was born 9 Dec. 1618, and it is clear that his mother was the Rose Kerrich who was baptized 13 Apr. 1572 and was therefore already forty-six years old in 1618, and not the older cousin of the same name. Moreover, Thomas and Rose Clarke named one of their sons William, a new name in this Clarke family''. pg 301.
NB: the older cousin Rose was born about 1568 so would have been 50 when the above Joseph Clarke was born so not an impossibility, but still more likely that the younger cousin Rose married Thomas Clarke.
