== Biography ==: The powerful Kirkham family lived at Blagdon (Paignton, near Torbay), in the county of Devon, since the reign of King Edward I (1272 - 1307 CE). Thomas was, however, born at another family estate in Bicton, on the other side of the Exe River, also in Devonshire.
