== Biography ==
James was the second son of Thomas Kirkham; his older brother, George, was Sheriff of Devonshire and a Member of Parliament (MP) at Westminster, London. James was an accomplice in Sir Peter Carew’s abortive rising of 1554 against Catholic Queen May but he was not executed.
James' daughter (not George's), Margaret Kirkham, born in 1572, became George's heir when his own children predeceased him. George died in 1582; James death date is not known.
