Notes about Joseph I van Habsburg Aartshertog van Oostenrijk

Jozef I (Wenen, 26 juli 1678 – aldaar, 17 april 1711) was keizer van het Heilige Roomse Rijk, koning van Hongarije en de Bohemen en aartshertog van Oostenrijk. Hij was de oudste zoon van keizer Leopold van Oostenrijk en zijn derde vrouw, Eleanora, dochter van Filips Willem van de Palts.

Jozef I werd geboren in Wenen en werd onderwezen door prins Dietrich Otto von Salm en werd een goede taalkundige. In 1687 besteeg hij de troon van Hongarije. Hij werd keizer van het Heilige Rooms Rijk op 6 januari 1690. In 1699 trouwde hij met Amalia Wilhelmina, dochter van hertog Johan Frederik van Brunswijk-Lüneburg, met wie hij drie kinderen kreeg:

* Maria Jozefa (1699 – 1757); 8 (1719) koning August III van Polen (1696 – 1763)
* Leopold Jozef (Wenen 29 oktober 1700 – aldaar 4 augustus 1701)
* Maria Amalia (1701 – 1756); 8 (1722) keurvorst Karel Albert van Beieren (1697 – 1745]])

In 1702, na de uitbarsting van de Spaanse Successieoorlog, ging hij in legerdienst. Hij sloot zich aan bij keizer-generaal Lodewijk van Baden bij de belegering van Landau. Hij volgde zijn vader op als keizer in 1705. Tijdens zijn ambtstermijn werd Hongarije verstoord door het conflict met Frans II Rákóczi, die uiteindelijk een toevluchtsoord zocht in Frankrijk.

Jozef I is ook een van de keizers van het Heilige Roomse Rijk in een ononderbroken rij van vier, wier muzikale kwaliteiten zich ook uiten in het zelf componeren van muziekstukken.
