Onder het pseudoniem Jacques Noordbant is door Jacques Martens de streekroman De Vier Winden geschreven, verschenen in 1939 bij NV De Volkskrant.

In Dagblad De Stem van 8 maart 1962 is het volgende artikel verschenen:

SJAAK MARTENS ZONDER VERHUIS DE STAD UIT....
Er zullen nog wel Bredanaars zijn die Sjaak Martens niet kennen, maar veel zijn dat er niet. Als je een jaar of vijftien als stadsredacteur in alle Bredase aangelegenheden je neus hebt gestoken, krijg je een zekere faam. Kijk, daar heb je de krant. Pas op je woord. Welnu, Sjaak Martens gaar de stad verlaten zonder dat hij verhuist.
Hij gaat namelijk onze redactie binnen- en buitenland versterken. Dit betekent dat men hem nog wel in de stad zal kunnen aantreffen (zij het veel minder frequent dan tot nu toe), maar dat hij zich niet meer met stedelijke aangelegenheden zal bemoeien. Althans niet in zijn functie van journalist. Als je hem op de man afvraagt wat hij ervan denkt, trekt hij een gezicht van comme ci, comme ça. Hij weet het zelf eigenlijk niet goed. Zijn nieuwe functie zal meer aan uur en tijd zijn gebonden. Hij zal zo'n beetje weten wanneer hij vrij kan zijn en dat is, wanneerje niet precies twintig bent, natuurlijk wel prettig. Maar aan de andere kant, al die vrienden en kennissen, nietwaar? Door de jaren heen zijn het er zoveel geworden dat je onmogelijk met Martens door de stad kunt wandelen zonder dat je binnen een kwartier door vijf mensen wordt opgehouden.
Die contacten, de amicale sfeer van de stadsjournalistiek, zal hij gaan missen. Zoals op hun beurt, veel Bredanaars Martens, zullen gaan missen, want voor iedereen die in de stad aan de weg timmert was hij een stukje Breda.
Maar hoe dan ook: de teerling is geworpen. Het is goed dat al zijn relaties dat weten. Trouwens: door de manier waarop hij zich steeds van zijn taak heeft gekweten, door het vertrouwen dat hij in de stad genoot, verdient hij ook wel een beetje officieel te worden uitgeluid.
Zijn talloze vrienden zullen hem ongetwijfeld toewensen dat hij zich in de nationale en internationale politiek even prettig zal voelen als tot nu toe in de raadszaal en in alle andere Bredase zalen, waar men hem graag zag verschijnen.
