1870-1908: Cornelis Martens is exploitant van de molen De Vier Winden. Op enig moment wordt de molen door blikseminslag getroffen en raakt ernstig beschadigd. Door molenaar Martens is geen verzekering tegen een dergerlijk onheil afgesloten, zodat een uitkering voor herstel achterwege blijft. De eigen middelen zijn ontoereikend om reparaties te laten uitvoeren. Afgezien van bliksemschade is het voortbestaan van de molen dubieus door het niet invoeren van stoomkracht om het rendement van de molen te verhogen. Eigenzinnigheid van molenaar Martens is daaraan niet vreemd. Het verval van de molen neemt toe, tot De Vier Winden definitief buiten gebruik wordt gesteld en in 1912 aan sloop ten offer valt.
