De aannemer Simon Wit (85-VI) bouwde o.m. de hervormde kerk van Berkhout. Ook aan de grote kerk in Hoorn heeft hij een aandeel geleverd. Een nazaat vertelde Bert dat hij maandags in alle vroegte met een ploeg personeel lopende naar Hoorn ging en daar bleef tot zaterdag, waarna zij weer lopend terug kwamen om de zondag thuis te zijn.
