Zoals hierboven staat vermeld was Frans Schuil Timmerman van beroep. Het was in die tijd gewoon dat deze vakmensen werden uitbetaald in een cafe. Het gevolg was dan veelal dat niet het gehele loon mee naar huis ging, maar dat een deel daarvan werd besteed in het cafe. Dit gaf bij Frans spanningen in het huwelijk. Als Frans dronken of aangeschoten thuis kwam dan sliep hij 's-nachts niet in het huis, maar in de schuur. In deze schuur heeft hij zich vervolgens op een nacht van het leven beroofd, door zich met zijn broeksriem aan de middenstang van zijn fiets te verhangen.
