1930 Illinois Census: Dirk P. Vandenburg (66) is listed as a contract home painter in Chicago City (ward 18, blo ck 107), Cook Co., living with his wife Elske (66) and son Baldwin W. (28). Also living in the household are daughter Gertrude Gebhart (37), her husband John H. (37), and their son John H. (4 months); and daughter Henderina ten Brinke and her family.
D. P. vanden Bergh is listed as a witness in his brother Pieter Van Zanten's naturalization records. He was living at 3705 11th Ave. S., Minneapolis.
Dirk P. Vandenbergh's death certificate (ID#1933-MN-022384 ) lists him as a married painter. His death occurred at his home at 3843 5th Ave. S, Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota. Dirk Pieter van den Bergh heeft een dagboek bijgehouden van zijn emigratiereis. Dat is verspreid over 1906 gepubliceerd in de (voormalige) Bussumsche Courant. In het Nederlands. In 1976 heeft zijn zoon Pieter van den Bergh het in het Engels vertaald. Zo kwam het in bezit van Pieter van Zanten (een nazaat van de moeder van Dirk Pieter van den Bergh uit haar tweede huwelijk. Hij voegde foto's aan het document toe. Dit document is verwerkt in de stamboom Voorhaar en kan door er op te klikken worden geopend. In 48 pagina's ontstaat een mooie inkijk in wat zo'n emigratietrip in die tijd inhoudt. In het begin van de 20e eeuw emigreerden veel Nederlanders naar de Verenigde Staten, het land van de onbegrensde mogelijkheden.
