Tekende op 29 aug. 1887 als vrijwilliger voor zes jaar bij de koloniale troepen als korporaal bij de genie (met een gratificatie van fl. 300,-). Vertrekt op 24 sep. 1887 vanuit Rotterdam met de ss "Zuid Holland". Aankomst Batavia op 5 nov. 1887.
