Hij was wollenlakenkoper, was in 1625 schepen en daarna raad van Den Bosch, kerkmeester van de Sint Jan, in 1603–1605 weesmeester, luitenant van de Jonge Handboog in 1604–1608 en wellicht sinds 1592, rector van het Groot Ziekengasthuis en zwanenbroeder van de Illustre Lieve-Vrouwebroederschap. Voorts was hij herhaaldelijk deken van het ambacht van de gewandsnijders ofwel droogscheerders. In die functie was hij lid van de brede raad van de stad ’s-Hertogenbosch, die hem aanstelde in verschillende commissies.
Zo werd hij in 1610 met twee anderen gecommitteerd om het plakkaat op de licenten en de landtol te verzachten, omme
de coopmanschappen deser stadt nijet te diverteren. In 1594 kocht hij het huis in de Drie Nobelen met het achterhuis, de tuin
en de waterbrugge in de Vughterstraat. Als zijn adres wordt in 1603 de Sint-Jorisstraat genoemd en vermoedelijk woonde hij
op de hoek van beide straten. Meermalen wordt hij Claes Janss in de Drije Nobels genoemd. Buiten de Pickepoort op de Vughterdijk bezat hij de Roosemoolen, die hij verplaatste naar de stadswal bij de Vughterpoort. In de Mortel kocht hij in 1607 voor f 343 twee kamers onder één dak. Te Helvoirt bezat hij een hoeve met heerlijke rechten.
De waarde van hun nalatenschap werd geschat op f 44.000. Alleen aan renten, pachten en cijnzen lieten zij een jaarlijks inkomen van minstens f 1559:6:14 na, wat gekapitaliseerd tegen de penning zestien neerkomt op f 25.200.
