Beste mensen,

Zoon Ben vroeg mij gisteren een dank- en afscheidswoord te spreken na deze droevige plechtigheid en ik durfde geen NEEN te zeggen al had ik dit graag gedaan. JIJ had altijd zo’n goede verhouding met vader en daarom zouden wij het zeer op prijs stellen. Dit laatste was maar al te zeer waar. JAN was maar 1 jaar en 17 dagen ouder dan ik, wat ik ook vaak van hem te horen kreeg.
In een gezin met veel kinderen is er nog al eens wat, zo ook bij ons, maar ik kan me niet herinneren dat JAN en ik ooit ruzie gehad hebben, hoewel we heus geen heilige boontjes waren, in ’t tegendeel, ook in minder goede zaken waren we het altijd eens. In onze jeugd en pubertijd trokken we veel samen op. Hoewel hierna onze wegen uiteen liepen, bleef de verhouding altijd goed, zodra we elkaar zagen praatten we weer verder en ging het vaak over vroeger: weet je nog enz., zoals dit bij goede bekenden gaat. Theologisch en politiek hadden we zeer uiteenlopende meningen, maar maakten hierover nooit ruzie.
Hij zei vaak dat hij steeds meer op de oude JAN van den POL ging lijken en inderdaad had hij veel van OPA van den POL en wie denkt dan niet aan zijn ”schijnbare” gemakzucht, maar ook aan zijn hartelijkheid en het gemakkelijk omgaan met mensen. Ook moeder HEINTJE deed niet onder voor deze hartelijkheid, je was bij beiden altijd zeer welkom. Wat broer JAN niet van zijn vader had, was zijn scherpe tong. Hij kon iemand goed en meestal zeer terecht de waarheid zeggen, maar in dezelfde zin kon hij dit zo relativeren of draaien dat niemand er aanstoot aan kon nemen. Ruzie maken kon hij niet: ”Je kunt beter onrecht lijden dan onrecht doen” was zijn leidraad in zijn leven. Laten we met deze woorden hier van hem afscheid nemen.

Lieve mensen, namens de familie, kinderen, kleinkinderen, broers en zusters hartelijk dank voor Uw aller aanwezigheid, buren, vrienden en kennissen, U allen die in zo’n grote getale zijt gekomen ondanks de regen, allen nogmaals hartelijk dank en als laatste, maar niet de minste Ds. Haverkamp, die deze dienst heeft willen leiden.
Allen zeer veel dank, het gaat U allen goed.
