Mozes en zijn echtgenote Lina (Lena) hadden voor de oorlog een slagerij in Zelhem. Op 22-09-1924 verhuisde het gezin naar Tilburg en van daar op 22-11-1924 naar Hemmerden (D).

Tijdens de oorlog heeft Mozes ondergedoken gezeten bij de fam. Vreeman aan de Vreemanstraat in Mariënvelde. Daarna heeft hij samen met 2 Joodse jongens uit Winterswijk ondergedoken gezeten in de hooiberg bij de fam. Boesveld aan de Tulnersweg in Halle (gemeente Bronckhorst-Gl). Knechten die niet op de hoogte waren van de onderduikers hebben Max bij hun werkzaamheden bijna aan de hooivork gestoken.

Van 1942 tot het einde van de oorlog was hij ondergedoken bij de fam. Veenhuis aan de Braamhorsterweg 6 (Halle-Gl). Bij de fam. Veenhuiis is Max een lange tijd ernstig ziek geweest. Vlak voordat hij bij hen kwam heeft men hem zwaar onderkoelt gevonden in een sloot. Vermoedelijk heeft hij in die nacht zich moeten verschuilen en is hij in de sloot gevallen.
