Notes about Gerardus Theodorus Timmermann

Gerardus Theodorus werd op twaalfjarige leeftijd wees en werd met zijn jongere broers en zussen geplaatst in het weeshuis te Gouda, dat geleid werd door dezelfde zustercongregatie als die waarbij Arnoldina Julie Timmermann zich later aansloot. Als jongeling kwam hij in de leer als kappersgezel. Dat werd zijn vak. Hij werkte in Gouda, Rijswijk, Den Haag en in Lisse in verschillende kapperszaken. Op een nationaal 'kap-concours' op 4, 5 en 6 maart 1928 te Den Haag won hij de 3e prijs in de 'afdeling haarsnijden heren'. Een diploma daarvan is nog aanwezig. In het begin van de zestiger jaren moesthij het kappersvak vaarwel zeggen vanwege zijn gezondheid (hart). Zijn laatste arbeidszame jaren werkte hij bij de firma Verduyn te Lisse en later in Hoofddorp. Deze firma dreef een levensmiddelengrossierderij van A & O. Vanaf zijn pensionering genoot hij volop van het leven, waarin ineens niets meer moets en veel mocht. Dagelijks was te vinden in het Dienstencentrum voor ouderen, Eikenhorst te Lisse, waarin zijn schoondochter Riet, later zou gaan werken. Hij ligt begraven op het kerkhof achter de parochiekerk van H.H. Engelbewaarders (Beekbrug) te Lisse (De Engel)
